The problem
What is the problem using hot water on Shabbat?
Traditional restrictions come from the inadvertent “cooking” that happens when hot water is released and it meets fresh cold water. Single-handle faucets make the issue worse, and pouring hot water directly onto dishes is prohibited.
The common idea of simply switching off the hot-water heater falls short: it doesn’t stop fresh cold water from entering the tank while you use the faucet.

Inside the tank
How the unit keeps the temperature exactly where it should be.
A water pump (a) is installed between the cold inlet and the hot outlet to circulate the water in the tank, giving a constant temperature from top to bottom. The probe (b) that reads the temperature is electronic and accurate, which lets the unit hold the temperature “below Yad Soledes Bo” precisely.
To make things simpler:
Using hot water on Shabbos will not directly set the fire, and the water temperature will never go above “Yad Soledes Bo.” In a blackout, the unit keeps the time and temperature by remaining in Shabbos Mode.
- Circulation pump — sits between the cold inlet and the hot outlet to keep one constant temperature top to bottom.
- Electronic probe — reads the temperature accurately so it stays below Yad Soledes Bo.
